Help for a More Regular Plan of Daily Time with God
As a church family who wants to share the love and good news of Jesus to those around us, we need to be growing in our love and friendship with Jesus ourselves. As we believe God speaks to us, one key way we can be doing this is by spending time each day reading His Word, the Bible. There are a variety of ways to help us with this, here are a few ideas below.
Do speak to Chris or Joanna if you would like to find out more, we’d love to chat to you.

In Quietness &Trust by Mike Searles View in side
Early in his ministry, Jesus gave his followers a description of how he wants his people to live. Rather than seeking to ascend to God, Christian discipleship is a downward flourishing; a counter-cultural way of blessing.
These 40 devotions, with a daily reading and short reflection, will guide you through the beatitudes Jesus gave in the Sermon on the Mount. This Easter, join Jesus on his path to the cross, and see that his way – though so different to the way of the world – leads to freedom, joy, and life. This book has eight groups of five devotions, with each group focusing on the theme of one of the beatitudes from Matthew’s gospel. Each day there is a verse or passage from Scripture with an accompanying devotion, a prayer and a song. The songs can be found online, but you can also find them on a Spotify playlist called ‘In Quietness and Trust – Lent Playlist’.

It’s easy to lose heart in a world where many things can and do go wrong. Life is difficult, and there are struggles within and without, but we can take heart the Lord is with us. He hears our cries for mercy. He knows our every need. He guides us, helps us, and strengthens us with his mighty right arm. Journey through a year with David Powlison, learning to “take heart” by meditating on his favourite Scripture passages, hymns, and biblical themes, exploring the ways God meets us with daily grace right where we live.
Drawn from David Powlison’s many decades of writing, teaching, and speaking, Take Heart is a yearlong devotional journey into the process of biblical change, where truth becomes clearer and our ears hear and our eyes see what God tells us about himself. Learn to go to God for the help you need and hold fast to the daily mercy and grace he offers. And be reminded the promises of God are true and that the resurrection of Jesus guarantees that no matter what you may be facing, you can live in real hope.
CHARACTER OF JESUS
As we look to become more like Jesus, the following books and the podcast focus on the character of Jesus and how we can change to become more like Him. Why not try them?
Do speak to Chris or Joanna if you would like to find out more, we’d love to chat to you.

Gentle and Lowly by Dane Ortlund
In his best-selling book, Gentle and Lowly, Dane Ortlund takes readers into the depths of Christ’s very heart for sinners. Focusing on Jesus’s words that he is “gentle and lowly in heart,” Ortlund dives deep into Bible passages that speak of who he is, encouraging readers with the affections of Christ for his people.
Designed as a supplement to the book, the Gentle and Lowly Study Guide helps readers reflect further on these key biblical truths. This helpful resource written by Dane Ortlund features discussion questions organized into 10 lessons, with each lesson covering 2–3 chapters from the book. Perfect for small groups and individuals alike, the Gentle and Lowly Study Guide can be used together with the book, the Gentle and Lowly Video Study, or both.

Maybe I can’t change?
Maybe it doesn’t really matter?
Maybe this is as good as it gets?
We all need encouragement in making the changes that will lead us to healthier lives. Many of us feel stuck in patterns of thought and behaviour that we wish we could alter, but the good news of the gospel is that we do not have to struggle through this process on our own.
The You Can Change devotional features ten weeks of daily Bible readings reflecting on how we can see more godly transformation our lives. With warm gospel-centred encouragement, Tim Chester offers steps to the hope and resolve needed for change with clear and practical steps that readers can build into their lives.
If your journey to lasting change needs a kickstart, let this 10-week devotional inspire you to keep pushing into the life that Jesus has won for you. Life in all its fullness.

Delighting in Jesus by Asheritah Ciuciu
For many Christians, “daily devotions” and “spiritual disciplines” strike guilt and shame in our hearts. But what if we got it all wrong? What if our Christian experience hinges not on perfect spiritual disciplines, but on the perfect love of a Father who delights in us?
In Delighting in Jesus, Bible teacher Asheritah Ciuciu invites you to lift your gaze from your to-do list and get to know the One who spun the stars and knows you by name.
Discover the theological foundation for how we were Created for Delight. You’ll see that throughout Scripture, joy originates from God, pulses at the heart of the gospel, and is promised to us as fruit from God’s Spirit.
By considering three Robbers of Delight, you’ll trade those things that steal your joy to receive Jesus’ personal invitation to a life of joy with Him—not just someday in heaven, but starting here and now on earth!
Finally, you’ll learn five practical Rhythms of Delight: joyful practices found in Jesus’ own life that increase our awareness of God’s presence with us, His delight in us, and our continual communion with Him. Forget about rigid formulas—these creative ideas will fit the rhythm of your modern life and lead to freedom to connect with God right where you are.
If you’re weary or disheartened, this book is for you. Come and drink from God’s river of delights and find in Him the desires of your heart.

Two Sisters and a Cup of Tea – PODCAST
And so, the season we’re about to start – on the Fruit of the Spirit – is the fruit of our prayers as we’ve sought wisdom on how best to guard our hearts in it all at the moment. It’s going to feel different – we’re not journeying through one book of the Bible from start to finish. Instead, we’ll be taking different portions of Scripture, as we seek first and foremost to gaze at Jesus. But in all of the difference, the core of what we’re doing this season remains the same. We’re opening the Bible, cups of tea in hand, and seeking to listen to what it says, driving it deeply to our hearts in the process. Will you join us as we do so? Whether you’re new around here or have been listening along for a while, we pray that it’s a fruitful season for all of us, as we seek to dwell deeply on what it is to be a follower of Jesus, displaying the fruit of His Spirit in our everyday lives.

Weekly Podcast – Fruit of the Spirit
What does it really look like to grow not only in our knowledge of Christ, but also to grow in becoming more like him? What does the fruitful Christian life really look like?
These are some of the questions we’ll be delving into in our deep dive into the Fruit of the Spirit – come and join us on the journey!

Women’s Breakfast Report
We warmly welcomed Karen Soole to our Women’s breakfast on Sat 27th June and enjoyed our usual fellowship together over a delicious breakfast.
A number of us who attended the Northern Women’s Convention in September enjoyed hearing Karen speak again, this time on Prayer. In her usual accessible style, Karen took the verse in Romans 12:12 as the theme for the day: ‘Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer’. She encouraged us to engage more with Jesus through His word and to turn to talk with him in our everyday, helping us to see prayer as an essential part of life and likening it to “breathing out and breathing in”. Many were helped by the idea of linking our prayers to verses from the bible.
We are very grateful to Karen for providing us with rich encouragement and for being willing to speak personally from her own life.
Karen mention the follow book: ‘Prayerfulness’ by Peter Adams
The next breakfast will be on Sat 3rd October. All welcome

Report from Northern Women’s Convention
on Saturday 26th September
We had a truly wonderful day at the Northern Women’s Convention on Saturday 26th September. A group of us set off to join 300+ other women from churches in the North of England.
It was a joy to praise the Lord together in a spacious auditorium. We were then taught from the book of Exodus (chapters 15 and 24). It was so encouraging to be reminded that in a dark and sometimes scary world, the Lord can be counted on to be who He is. He will keep the promises He has made, He is faithful and utterly committed to His people. God made a covenant with His people at Mount Sinai and we too are invited into this marriage convenant with Him. Have we grasped how privileged we are to be invited to be in relationship with Him?
There were seminars to attend and plenty of time to chat and enjoy fellowship over a cuppa and during lunchbreaks. And of course we all enjoyed the bookstall. Some of us managed some early Christmas card purchases! Do speak to Joanna, Chris or Joe about it to find out more and do join us next year, you will be blessed by being there. As one of our group wrote:
“The conference was wonderful and very encouraging. It reminded us to rely on our Redeemer and Saviour for our souls. Exodus is one of my favourite books, and it was wonderful to share it with others. It also reminded us of the beautiful love of our Lord Jesus Christ and the importance of knowing Him and having a personal relationship with Him. It was a truly blessed and encouraging time”. Hilina
