This summer we dive into the well loved message of the prophet Jonah. Immediately images of whales (or big fish) spring to mind, however, the book is not about the fish, but the God of heaven, ‘who made the sea and the dry land.’ We discover, not only is he sovereign over creation, but he is also deeply compassionate towards it. In Jonah’s words, we meet our God who is ‘a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love,’ the God who rescues from the pit, the God who would send the greater Jonah to descend into the depths that his people might be lifted up. In the chaos he is in control, in the storm he is mighty to save. What comfort is here for the soul that sings with Jonah ‘Salvation comes from the Lord.’

Week 6 – 1st September

We round off the summer season by looking at King David’s great anthem of praise, Psalm 145. As we hear this reflection on the greatness, the goodness and the grace of God, we will consider the comfort and assurance we can draw from these attributes, particularly as we find them realised in the person and work of Jesus himself.
